How to Make Your Technology Roadmap 2012, writing minutes

Furthermore, within an approved budget and expectations established.
A well thought out technology plan consists of four parts:
Problem statements
Solution Option (s)
Recommended Solution
Summary
These pieces need not be long runs. I think a couple of sentences for each point. More details can be added later if necessary. Only an outline of a plan put you ahead of most IT organizations.
Problems
It is typically a highly reactive. Many people want to go directly to the solution without considering the problem they are trying to solve a user has a problem and want to fix it. This process exposes many corners have not thought at intersections with other problems in your organization. Technological problems are small signs of large interconnected systems and processes. Indication of the problem makes these compounds. Perhaps a more uniform and easier to answer there. Solution (s)
Now that you’ve defined the problem that may compromise the tactical response (s). May be an option only solution – but many problems have multiple paths to a solution. Do not go overboard with options. It is best to stick to three options in the majority – low cost, average cost and the option to Cadillac. For each option are as follows:
Dependencies (if any)
Benefits
Disadvantages (including risks)
Costs
Timeline
Its aim is that this brief – no verbosity – abstract thinking. The purpose of this exercise is not to write a thesis and I have seen the smallest detail, but a border around a discussion of technology. Keep it simple, stick to the sentences of reference for a few each vignette.
PROPOSED SOLUTION
Finally, briefly describe the recommended solution and why. Use this section to honestly evaluate viable solution would be minimal. We would all like the Cadillac solution – but it will be excessive, adding cost and complexity of the problem? What is the right size solution for your organization?
SUMMARY
The summary is a combination package of the total cost and schedule of the recommended solutions. This will help in the decision to not only identify the costs within budget (or what the budget request should be) and what resources will be needed to implement the work plan.
Taking some time to figure out where you spend the time and IT budget for the coming years will give you great rewards and a way to measure success. If you are a show person or part of a large company, it pays a price available for this next trip around the sun. Why not spend the time to the most productive year!
